:bulletred: "Poetry and prose blend in this short (240 words) story to create a disquieting yet cozy atmosphere, and remind us how magic is always present even in the most ordinary places." - BluestWaves
witchfingerswitchfingers.
Once, a girl decided she'd learn origami. She signed up for special classes they gave in a cultural center, paid for the month and always sat on the first row.
She was a natural, they all thought but never told her anything. It was just a remarkable thing, how her fingers could bend in so strange a manner and how she'd twirl the paper like she'd done it from the cradle.
Her skin was sickly white, her nails had a blackish-bluish rimming.
And her hands, they were beautiful- disgustingly beautiful, and unfairly deft.
This girl always walked back home alone. She lived alone too, so she always ate lefovers from the leftovers from some aged delivery, she didn't cook for herself because it depressed her.
She walked home alone, and the quiet street that ended in her doorstep was lined with old evergreen trees that sounded like the ocean.
One afternoon, she stopped showing up at the origami classes. Most of the other students were jealous of her ability, and she was too silent als

:bulletyellow: "It's a dragon like in the fairy tales. It's awesome cause it's meanin' for someone cause it was somethin' I never done. It's for someone that's awesome and nice but they lost who they were. It's awesome in many ways, JamieM but it's a lot more meanin'ful than awesome. " - midnitekid

:bulletorange: "People find that vocaloids are born stars, and that's not really true. They had to start somewhere. We all have to accomplish our goals somehow. We have to 'reach for the stars' and don't give up on what's important to us." - alyssalovesart14

:bulletgreen: "I really like this picture, cause its simple, but it looks also beatiful... I think it is not important how the picture looks like, but what it should represent and also the story behind the picture...." - AngelSugarSweet
:thumb279296675:

:bulletblue: "Why is it awesome? Well, it's simply because all the elements that make up the picture is just the way I like it: the detail, impact, vibrant coloring, the expressions, background and the concept... the concept of your inner "devil"/wants (id) versus the "angel"/morality (superego) and the self that has to balance the wants and morality realistically and make decisions (ego). The thought, effort and result all come together and make it awesome." - happylilsquirrel

:bulletpurple: "I think this is my best work, I had never worked longer on any other picture in my life. I put so many hours into it and even though not many people have really noticed it I still think its the best. I tried to shove as many things as possible into the picture if it would describe who I am and I must say that I am pleased with it." - fangurley

:bulletpink: "'Just Because' is a tremendous work, encompassing in a mere seventeen words a tremendous commentary on the reasons for the creation of art, on the critics and appreciators of art, upon the relation between art and what it symbolizes, on life the universe and everything, on death disaster and survival, on manatees and platypuses and furry green things from Alpha Centauri; nay more, it throws into sharp perspective the very meaning of life itself!" - jochannon

:bulletblack: "Set in a crowded atmosphere of someone's living room, the feel of quiet celebration is presented. The quite aspect is given off by the five characters in the foreground, of whom are all engaged in quiet activities ((read/sleeping/observing) while the celebration aspect is given off by the characters in the background, showing loud movements. These movements are still hushed by the fact they are a part of the background. All and all, this is a brilliant piece, I must say." - Kuro-sempai

:bulletwhite: "You stumble upon a black and white artwork, It's the Joker... I know everyone has their take on the classics, and this is mine, but, how can you represent the complexity of the caracter with a simple 2 color artpiece on a sheet? The answer is... You can't, not visually... There's only so much background an image can carry BY ITSELF... But everyone knows joker, and that's where the beauty remains: The drawing is like a stick, that tickles that part of your brain that hold all the information on this crazy and iconic figure, and then you say - "WHOA, IT'S THE JOKER..." - and as long as the artwork remains somewhat faithful to the original figure, the artwork is appreciated, and if the artist still manages to keep it original, the artist is appreciated... And I believe I deserve a DD for the reason of daring a take on such a classic, and I believe I did kind of good... It's what my mom says anyway XD" - KhanLuo

:bulletred: "To me, my best work is a drawing of Neve Campbell. It has already been a while since I drew it, but it is rather special for me, since at that time I had a sort of revelation about drawing. I realized the meaning of different shades; that it is not all grey, but white and black also, which brings depth and dimension to the drawing. Since I have learned more, but this was one of the first better ones." - Keijunlilja

:bulletyellow: "doesn't matter who" poignantly explores the last few thoughts of a man sentenced to death by lethal injection, reflecting in gentle, somber phrases the reverence and care that the artist put into its creation. There are no corners cut in regards to controversy--simply a deep and dignified venture into a dying man's final feelings. - Judah-Leonardo

:bulletorange: "The beginning of A.I., a sci-fi novel, intrigues the reader, drawing them in with its descriptive detail and carefully woven words following two characters who wish to achieve the same ideal of a better future through separate paths that end up intertwined in an action-packed story that makes you to turn the page and reach the unbelievable end." - Metarex12

:bulletgreen: "I think this photo could be DD-worthy because of the focus on the leaf, and how I captured the cute little curl of the climbing plant on the trellis. The leaf's details are also unusually fine for my camera, which is strange because my camera doesn't usually work with me so nicely when it comes to focusing so sharply on those little details. xD" - Lioness-Lindsey

:bulletblue: "I think it's my best of digital art.
This art piece is very emotional to me and colors join and support each other." - Eitvys200

:bulletpurple: "This is my best photo I ever took. This shows that I am pretty interested in clay and photography now.... ( Urggg... I want to eat that! T^T ) This piece is a cookie that can make you hungry (?)" - Icepath6278
:thumb279880142:

:bulletpink: "Featured by #DailyLiteratureDeviations on February 21, 2012, this piece, not even 500 words, uses vivid imagery by using believable dialogue and beautiful descriptions. Using senses not often used, such as sound, the author makes the piece feel more interesting. Who knew a kite could be such a problem, especially in winter." - SaevusWinds
Broken in the Snow"I'm gonna go home before it gets dark," Liboria said.
"Lib, you promised," he whined.
"Yeah, whatever. Just wait a sec," she said, grasping for a good place to pull herself up.
The barren branches clawed at her as she climbed to the top of the tree. Liboria's heavy boots made the bark crumble, revealing a cream color wood that was smooth and slick. Crows cawed out to the gray sky, which only replied with their echo. It was getting late.
There was a boy sitting in the snow below. His blue lips quivered. He stuffed his pink, frigid fingers into his coat pocket and winced in pain. His nose was redder than his cheeks.
"My hands hurt." Amos shivered.
"I don't see you helping," she snapped.
"But you did it!" Amos yelled.
Liboria growled as she lifted her body to the next branch. Her orange hair whipped around in wind like active flames. Her eyes, like a hawk's, fixed on the lime color kite as if it were her prey. She straddled the branch and stretched her arms as far as possible. The kite w

:bulletblack: "Afro Samurai: The Tribute by ~gunzy1 is, indeed, an excellent tribute to an anime of truly epic proportions! What makes this piece so unique and even more brilliant is the fact that it wasn't done in the usual digital or traditional drawing/painting that we normally see, but, instead the artist decided to take his work to an even higher level by doing it as a realistic photomanipulation (something rarely done with cartoon characters). By doing this the artist has given us a taste of what the "real Afro" would look like, not to mention the appropiate choice of background which allows us to take a daring step into the world of The Afro Samurai." - gunzy1

:bulletwhite: "This is my best work so far as ive put togeter all ive learned over the years with traditional mediums and ive tryed to push it that little bit further with the help of my new tablet. digital media is a very new medium for me but i feel im starting to push myself further with the help of the community of deviants i learnt new techniques and skills and put them into practice on this my best work of art yet." - Scumpunx

:bulletred: "I personally believe this is my best one because not only is my focus and placement of the ring in both parts incredibly exact (I was so impressed I did that without cropping!), it was also my most powerful, personally. The ring represents a lot of my past from last year and the year before, and I did this photo when I realized that I should stop focusing on it. It was a very emotional realization for me, and I think it shows in this photo. It's been suggested as a DD by other deviants as well, and while they haven't gotten any responses, they continue to suggest it periodically. And if I ever had a DD, just one, I would be so incredibly happy if this were to be it. So here's my contest entry!" - ToxicAlice92
